OUCH....5,000,000 hours? No wonder my butt hurts!

Re: 5,000,000 Hours of Flight Experience!
6000 hours is average? With 6200, that means I'm just barely above average!

Re: 5,000,000 Hours of Flight Experience!
OK, who brought the curve down?

Does it *matter*?

I guess we're implying that our members are distinguished!

Re: 5,000,000 Hours of Flight Experience!
Checking in at 1800 TT I guess I brought the curve down. Sorry

Got y'all beat, 1700hrs!! Hmmm, in most places, bringing the curve down is a good thing.
Give me 20 years...

Re: 5,000,000 Hours of Flight Experience!
I'm the one who consistently disappoints with a mere 2000 hours. Talk about inadequate!

Re: 5,000,000 Hours of Flight Experience!
Actually everyone who enters their flight time brings UP the curve! The code that does the calculation takes the flight time from each persons profile, adds them together and divides by the total number of members... If you haven't entered your flight time, it is counted as 0 but the program is still using you in the "divide by" calculation...

Very diplomatic.
Now I'm going to go back to crying about my paltry 2700 hours.

Re: 5,000,000 Hours of Flight Experience!
So I guess my momma was right...I am special! I'm above average at 6700 hours...just barely above average!
When I saw the 5 Million mark I was like, "Holy Logbooks Batman!" Man...we've got a lot of time boring holes in the sky...

Yeah, but I wonder how many seconds of sheer terror do we have?

Re: 5,000,000 Hours of Flight Experience!
Is that 5,000,000 hours of experience or 1 hour of experience repeated 5,000,000 times?
-
Re: 5,000,000 Hours of Flight Experience!
Well, you know what they say...
Since you know what they say, will somebody please tell me?
-
Re: 5,000,000 Hours of Flight Experience!
Remember, half of us are always below average.

Well, not exactly.
Consider the following series of hypothetical members and their hours:
Andrew : 10
Barbara : 10
Charles : 10
Denise : 10
Edward : 10
Francis : 10
George : 10
Harriet : 10
Ian : 10
Janice : 1,910
Together, the 10 members have 2,000 hours, or an average of 200 hours each. Nine of the ten are below average.

I made the top 10 percent of my senior high school class possible !!

Re: 5,000,000 Hours of Flight Experience!
I'm sure this is what you meant by average...
Arithmetic Mean
The most commonly used type of average. To find the arithmetic mean of a set of n numbers, add the numbers in the set and divide the sum by n.
Formula:http://www.mathwords.com/a/a_assets/...%20formula.gifExample:For the numbers 4 and 9,

Median of a Set of Numbers
The median of a set of numbers is the value for which half the numbers are larger and half are smaller. If there are two middle numbers, the median is the arithmetic mean of the two middle numbers.

While the median makes a closer fit to "half of us are below" generalization, if still fails to meet the test 100% of the time. It would be accurate to say at most, half of us are below the median, and at most, half of us are above the median. If there is an odd number of us, at least one of us will be equal to the median. Even if there is an even number of us, many of us could be equal to the median. Only if there is an even number of us, and nobody is equal to the median, could we say that half of us are below the median.

So the median of this set of numbers is.... 10?

Man, wish I had stock in Texaco or Exxon/Mobile. Think of all the fuel burned in 5.07M hours. That is just for 829 pilots too.
Going to be awhile before we have more posts than hours!!!

Re: 5,000,000 Hours of Flight Experience!
Um yeah I think I'm the lowest time PPW member.
Wait, can I count time I spent working as a line guy? I might be able to catch up to you guys.
